Gerri Almand found her voice as a writer of humorous nonfiction books when her sweet-talking husband convinced her they should buy an RV and see the world in 2015. She wrote three award-winning books about RV travel: The Reluctant RV Wife (2019), Home Is Where the RV Is (2020), and Running from Covid in our RV Cocoon (2021).

Her latest nonfiction humorous book, Over-55 Conniptions: An Old Biddy Battles Aging (2025), begins a new chapter in her life. When health problems brought their RVing days to an end, she and her husband moved into an over-55 community in the Pacific Northwest, thus triggering the unmistaken realization that she was now an elderly woman with a time-limited future.  In this newest release, Gerri chronicles her struggle to acquiesce to the inevitability of growing old, doing so with sharp humor, poignant insights, and caring compassion.

Gerri’s personal stories reveal her struggles with retirement, aging, and an ever-changing world. Her work is deceptively light-hearted and comical as she tackles poignant and significant issues. She hopes her search for the courage to grow and change will inspire readers to follow their own dreams, whatever the lifestyle changes might be.

In addition to four traditionally published books, Gerri has been published in multiple magazines, journals, and anthologies. She has also had success in public speaking contests through Toastmasters and storytelling, having appeared on the Florida Storytellers Association stage.

Prior to writing, Gerri enjoyed a forty-year career as a social worker, working with children and families in a variety of settings. Little did she realize through all those decades of writing reports that she’d write creative nonfiction books after she retired.

Gerri now makes her home with her husband in Eugene, Oregon, happily nestled in her over-55 neighborhood where she most decidedly belongs. Her hobbies include gardening, listening to live music, and sipping pinot noir in one of the local wineries. Her large collection of indoor plants makes her home look like a tropical rain forest.

Recognitions & Awards

As an unpublished, book-length nonfiction manuscript, Over-55 Conniptions: An Old Biddy Battles Aging (under the submitted title of When the Transmission Falls Out of the RV) was a Semi-Finalist in the 2025 Florida Writers Association’s Annual Royal Palms Literary Awards (RPLA) Contest.

Almand’s personality and perseverance shine through in this relatable and honest story, filled with hope for the future. When faced with the idea of holing up and staring out of the window, Almand instead chooses to squeeze every last drop out of the grapes of life and then makes wine with it.
